Plot Summary of The Mistress 2023:
We see a newly married couple who are Parker and Madeline laughing together and having an intimacy through the window. Next morning Madeline receives some household things since they have shifted here. Parker is smoking and drops a box when he tries to get up hastily hearing Madeline’s call for help. It means Madeline prohibited smoking in her house because they are trying to have a baby.
Their neighbour Dawn appears with some flowers as she gets the door open. She looks so beautiful and Parker seems a lil’ bit lost seeing her. Mad tells her about her marriage so gladly and receives the flower. Dawn talks a lot and behaves like a clingy. She offers them to decorate their house but Mad’s mom is a decorator too so her offer gets denied. When she sees a piano she says that she can write music through her blog dawnoftime.com.
Suddenly she brings up the matter that this house might be haunted. Park stops her saying Madeline is sensitive about ghosts. She says she is connected to the spiritual world and mentions a name ‘Dorothy’ who knows all about old houses. Parker and Mad have just shifted into the house, so they have a lot of things to organise. So they request her to leave and they definitely haven’t liked her at all, especially Madeline.
Park finds some old furniture, some squatters and an antique plate camera which is worth a fortune. He finds some negatives from the plate camera and wash it to see the real picture. At night Park falls asleep talking about kids and wakes up hearing kids’ noise in the middle of the night and also hallucinates a kid. In the morning, Mad wonders, looking at the woman’s picture what he found in the camera negative. This picture is a hundred years old. Park gets Rob’s call and he tells him to give someone something. In the evening, Park goes to meet someone out of a donut shop, MacArthur Park. But we can’t see who he met.
Mystery Begins in The Mistress 2023:
He notices a car parking outside his home and departs just when he reaches the car. At night a get together happens in his place and two of his old friends come. A while later, Dawn joins. She gets along with them very well and even gets a modelling proposal from Rob. When Dawn leaves a car passes by and it makes Park nervous. Park tells Davey about a rough incident that happened in his life.
Before Maddy, there was a woman in his life. It was just a few dates with her but it didn’t end well. Then that woman called him and eventually non stop texting made him change his number. Then one night he saw her waiting outside his apartment in her car. He called the cops but she was gone. This kept happening every night for weeks. The cops started thinking he was nuts. Then one night he discovers her hiding under his bed. They finally locked her up and he thought he had been able to get rid of her finally.
But recently he is noticing a car waiting outside for him and leaving the place whenever he is noticing. Maddy knows about the woman but doesn’t know about her returning. Rob leaves and Park shows Davey the uppermost part of the attic. Davey mesmerizes and wants to get Janine up there.
Unveiling The Past of The Mistress 2023:
Park and Davey get a box from a hidden chamber in the attic where 50 letters are found, written to William Woodruff. The guy who built this house. Maddy reads the letters so dramatically and passionately and the others’ are enjoying those juicy words.
But those words are really pleasing.
‘A mere minute has passed since you kissed me goodnight and the scent of bay rum fills my nostrils and clouds my mind.’

That means someone named Rebecca used to write letters to William. Everyone thinks she might be her lover who could not meet him.
Park takes some photos when Maddy wears the old costumes, kept in this house. But after that night they begin to experience paranormal situations like a girl in a white dress swings in a swinger in the garden. Park calls the police but the girl disappears. Park thinks it is her who has haunted him whole life.
Maddy says, ‘how can you not know that she is insane?’
Park is going through PTSD. It is a slow cooker. It is like a tumour. It festers inside of you for months, sometimes years. Sometimes you don’t even notice it. But when you finally do, it is just too late. It has taken root and it eats you alive. Park thinks that he can leave that all behind because he has Maddy. Maddy says about her unpleasant past too. They both resolutes to fight their wounds together.
Park is working at night and we can see a girl who is again in that swinger. When Park returns to his room making a cup of tea, he sees his computer screen is full of ‘I Love You’ and the gramophone is playing by itself. He goes under the basement and sees a woman is trying to break in. Park confronts her and tries to defend her but when that girl is almost gonna cover him, Maddy calls Park as the storm is freaking her out. She escapes.
After days, Davey and Janine stay up at night and read the letters. They discover Rebecca was a mistress and a stalker because she wore a dress that William bought her who just happened to see him. Saying Rebecca, a stalker, he goes to the washroom and hears a sound which leads him to go to the attic and falls down, getting a brain injury and yes, we saw that girl behind him.
At night, something pulls Park upstairs and he hears Rebecca singing,
‘We wandered through the shadow of the pines…My love and I…As the wind was blowing…’
Rebecca calls Park up to the top and thanks him for believing in her. They get intimate and Rebecca disappears. After the night, they meet Davey who believes he didn’t fall on his own. Someone hit him and that is his stalker. He gives Park his .9 millimetre gun to protect his family. Davey doesn’t know he has already betrayed Maddy.
‘Dear William…last night I stood outside your house…a lamp burned in your study, and I knew you were awake…I could have rung your bell…my fingers just inches from it…you would have answered the door…your wife being fast asleep…’
Parker is holding the gun and checking the CCTV footage. Rebecca approaches and makes Parker open the door. But Dawn comes with alcohol and wants to have a drink with him. They talk about their regrets and Park tells her his story. At the age of 12, a boy named Bush provoked him to throw a stone at a guy without any reason offering him cancellation of the payment of the burger he paid off earlier. He threw the stone and wounded the guy. It makes him guilty forever. Dawn hugs him and tries to kiss him. Park moves her away and goes to the washroom to keep the gun somewhere safe. When he returns, he finds Dawn dead in the basement.
Although Rebecca has ruined his life, he still can’t resist her temptation or you can say he is not able to do it. William tried it but ended up being killed by her. Maddy comes over and catches him smoking cigarettes. She throws them out but she screams when finds clothes indiscriminately in her room. She thinks it’s his stalker so she wants her arrested. At that moment, her mom comes and she gets so excited seeing a 100 years old Victorian house in front of her. Mom and daughter leave the house heading to the market to grab some antiques. When they come back, mom reads one of the letters and we can learn about Rebecca’s pregnancy. In the meantime, Park can’t find his gun anywhere.
Cops show up to investigate Dawn’ disappearance and don’t find anything to be doubtful. Maddy understands something is happening behind her that she can’t find so she confronts him. He tells all about Rebecca. William moved the house to get away from her but she found them and killed them. Maddy tells him to leave the house immediately and the retailers have to get back their money. That night Rebecca comes to kill Maddy and mommy but Park saves them to give him all to herself. They start kissing and mom catches them.
Confronting The Truth in The Mistress 2023:
Maddy comes over Dorothy, the bookish neighbour who knows a lot about the houses of LA. She says Woodruff’s house was always her favourite. They built it on the top of Angel’s Flight. Then they moved it as they got a lot of oil on their property but Rebecca had nothing to do with their moving. The reporters wrote a lot about her but she was just a poor girl.
When Maddy drops the information of the murders of the Woodruff’s family, she says it wasn’t true. She met her daughter when she was in her 80’s. Maddy leaves but can’t understand what’s going on. Arriving home, she meets Richmond, the therapist, who has come for Park who didn’t show up to her for a while. Maddy tells her about his restraining order but it only brings her a ridiculous smile. So she checks on his file and gets to know the stalker is actually Parker. She finds the murdering footage of Dawn too.
Ending Explained of The Mistress 2023:
Actually Park is a depression patient who hallucinated Rebecca to represent his insatiable soul. He was never a favourite of women. I think this pretty much explains why he married a dark woman. He has nothing to hide so he attacks Maddy but gets killed. The police retrieve her.
Now on the other side of the world, Rebecca and Parker are together. The last scene shows us the newcomer of this house who has got the Madeline photo. But maybe, they will never know about Rebecca.
