Greta 2018; Plot Summary:
Frances and Erica live in Manhattan in a one room apartment. Frances works as a waiter in a restaurant. One day Frances gets a bag in the subway. She waits a little in the station room but no one is there. Then she takes it in her apartment. Her roommate Erica says she doesn’t need to get it back to its owner.
Erica sees whatever is in the bag. She makes the bag upside down and gets a weird kind of pill, a lottery ticket, and some money. Erica expresses her desire to spend the money but Frances disallows it. At night, they go for a movie and Erica reminds her to call her father. But she seems a little indifferent to call him. But a drop of tear falls from her eye. Erica soothes her soul and cracks a joke to make her smile.
Next day she goes to the bag owner’s house to return it. It’s Greta’s home and she is being so humble for coming here passing all the raindrops. She invites her for a cup of coffee which is already in the pot. Frances receives her invitation. France introduces herself saying she is from Boston and she thanks her for the nice treatment.
Frances lives here with her friend Erica. Her dad bought her a loft in TriBeCa for graduation. Cristof is Greta’s husband and Nicola is her daughter. She plays piano which Cristof taught her once. Frances asks her if she has any pets. She doesn’t have any because she is not able to maintain a dog now. But still Frances gives her number if she changes her decision because her mother used to breed dogs.
Next day, Erica does yoga and Frances is cycling on the floor. Suddenly Greta calls and she thinks she should buy a dog and needs Frances’ help. Frances gives her words to accompany her on Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Erica makes fun of her and at the same time, she alerts her not to do that. This city is gonna eat her alive.
The next day, they go to a dog centre where everyone keeps their dog. They take a dog named Morton. Frances takes a photo of them together and shows her how to send it to her daughter. Greta assumes she is pretty close to her mother. Frances informs she passed away. She is left with this dream of hers. Her dream won’t fade if she keeps that into her heart.
They go to a church where Christof used to play organ every friday. It’s okay to light a candle even if you don’t practise. Nicola calls her and talks with her. She is the youngest ever winner of the little Mozart. She used to come here. She lives in Paris. Frances feels sorry for Greta and says she doesn’t have to be lonely. Frances’ friends used to say she is like chewing gum. She loves to stick around. They promise to each other they will not leave each other.
Next day Erica talks about Simon Porter who is gonna throw a party. She has bought a pair of shoes and she is wearing those. Frances says they are great but she can’t go. She has already made plans to have dinner with Greta. Frances says sorry watching her being upset. She has to be there in 30 minutes. Erica thinks it’s getting weird. Greta is her friend but she hardly knows her. Erica is gonna call her and they are putting it on a serious taper.
Erica says she is just a superficial bitch. It isn’t a good idea to make some random lady her surrogate mother. Erica gets angry and says now she is gonna pretend that is not what is going on here. It’s so obvious, it’s sad.
Frances gets hurt and she is gonna try and forget that she just said that to her. Frances helps Greta to cook. She is cooking risottos. Courgette and basil. A recipe her mother taught her. The candles are in the cabinet. In the little cabinet, she finds a lot of green bags and there is a name tagged in the back of every bag. At dinner time, she says she wishes to meet her mother. She asks her about her friend Erica.
In opposition, Frances is not feeling well. She is feeling sick. Greta asks if she would like to lay down. But she just wants to go home. Greta says they haven’t had dessert. She tells her to pack her plate of food but she doesn’t want to. She was purposely planting them all over the city so that someone comes to bring them back. This is the creepiest thing they have ever heard.
Greta keeps calling her when she is in the subway, or in her working place. She has called her home like 80 times. Frances starts to freak out. She calls Erica. Erica has unplugged the phone. She really wants her to go away. But it’s not that easy. The crazier they are, the harder they cling.
Greta comes to her restaurant. Frances regrets now for not listening to Erica earlier. She asks her manager to get rid of her. But he tells she can do it too. Greta was worried because she was not answering her phone. She says that she doesn’t want to talk with her because she saw the bag which she was planting so that someone would come to bring them back.
Greta leaves but gives her messages saying after Nicola left she was in the well of loneliness. It made her a little mad. That’s why she did it. But she will never do it again. She tries to make her understand they were meant for love. She threatens her saying if she doesn’t call her she doesn’t know what she will do.
Frances ignores her threat and tries to get attentive to her work but she notices her standing across the street. She flinches in such a way that the glass in her hand drops. She calls the cops but they don’t consider it harassment. They say she can just stand there and stare all day. She can even stand there with a telephoto lens and a tripod and take your picture if she wants to. Public area, her rights are protected.
They suggest ignoring her. Late at night, she carefully looks around and chooses the path of the subway but she is there. So she takes another road and still meets her. She says she is lonely too. Everybody is lonely. That doesn’t mean that you get to follow people around and terrorise them.
She replies everybody needs a friend such as you have your Erica. You said you always stick around like chewing gum. Please let’s start again. She tries to talk to you but she won’t listen. Out of rafe, she throws chewing gum to her hair. Next day, they go to file a case against her but it would take too much time to arrest her.
Next day, she goes to the dog centre and talks about her worries about the dog. She silently goes to her home and checks on the trash bin and takes her daughter’s address. She sends a message to her daughter. Late at night, she doesn’t find Erica in the room. She is out at a party. She suddenly gets photos of Erica from Greta’s number. That means she is following her. Frances makes her aware of the fact. Erica comes out of the bar, takes the subway, then takes the bus but still she is following. Frances reaches her on time and saves her.
After the night, Frances meets Alex, a friend of Nicola. She says Nicola is dead. She killed herself four years ago. She was her addiction counsellor. The whole Paris thing of Greta is her affectation. Maybe she just couldn’t survive the box. The box in which she was confined as a child or whatever. Frances’ dad gets worried about her. He scolds her because she keeps telling him everything is okay. This woman is unstable. She needs to cut her off entirely.
One day Greta comes to her restaurant as a customer. She gives her orders in french and calls her darling. Frances calls the cops. Greta says she is the child and she needs mother’s care. Frances says not to dare to talk about her mother. The police come and take her away but release her in a while.
Erica says to take the slow fade path. Frances tells Greta sorry and expresses her gratitude to her. She is going away tomorrow and will come back to meet her. Everything seems okay between them but she is wrong. Greta mixes pills to her coffee and kidnaps her and ties her into a box in which she used to lock Nicola.
She tries to make her habitual to living with her but Frances stabs her and tries to run away. She can’t escape, instead she finds Samantha dead and gets caught by her. Her father meets with Erica and understands her child is in danger. He hires a secret service man and he gets killed too.
Erica makes a plan and starts to go in the subway so that she can find that green bag. One day her plan gets successful and she gets Frances through the clue of the green bag. They tie her and lock her in the box and that’s how they get rid of the nightmare.

Character Analysis of Greta Hideg in Greta 2018:
Greta was too possessive of her child Nicola. She used to lock her in a box and always wanted to keep her with herself which caused Nicola to get addicted in her adolescence. In the end, she committed suicide being incapable tolerating her possessiveness.
