Plot Analysis of Lady Bird 2017:
‘The only exciting thing about 2002 is that it’s a palindrome.’
Greta has developed the Christine character through mother-daughter, friend-friend, boyfriend-girlfriend relationship with elegance based on a story plotted in 2002.
Christine McPherson is being impulsive, listening to the radio. When she is gonna play music, Marion hinders her from doing it because she wants to live through the moment. Christine expresses her frustration regarding her life and at the same time she is accepting she is not perfect. Marion gets surprised for raising such a snobbish and adds she doesn’t even know that her father’s company is laying off implying her as an inconsiderate person.
Christine wants to go to the East Coast where American culture flourishes, like New York. The funny part is she is not even worth state tuition because of her lousiness.
The ‘immaculate heart’ girl is now passing the most beautiful period that is adolescence. This age will make you wonder at everything you see and she falls in love with Danny. Danny and Christine are having a sweet jiff under a starry night. Romantic music, adrifting in the air. Having done some small talks, on the spur of the moment they kiss.
The most interesting part is how she has to deal with her mom everyday, like we all do. When she enters home with a wonderful feeling of having her first kiss, Marion scolds her for leaving her room like nothing was put away right. She flows her anger because dad has lost his job.
This movie exhibits several aspects of a mother-daughter relationship.
She spends a beautiful Thanksgiving going to the most beautiful house of Sacramento that belongs to Danny’s grandma. An American way of celebrating life, you can see here. Juveniles, eating foods, drinking juices and most importantly throwing foods at each other otherwise the fun will be incomplete.
The day Christine is planning to marry Danny to inherit his grandma’s house, she confronts Danny kissing a boy. Jules and Christine, both of them get hurt on the same day. They try to heal by hearing sad songs, getting busy working in stores but still memories are punching hard.

But she is in her pretty days so there are many options. Kyle, her new boyfriend, for whom she decides to befriends with the cool girl group of her class ignoring Jules. Christine gets suspended insulting her teacher telling her that teacher’s mom should abort her then they don’t have to attend this stupid assembly!
Her mom picks every point of her life when she sucks like insulting her father telling him to drop her off a block away from school everyday. At one point, Christine asks her to give a number for how much it cost to raise her. She is gonna pay her off by earning a lot of money. But mom again breaks off saying she is not gonna gain that ability.
But all her efforts don’t give her anything good. Kyle and Christine deflower each other but he already has had sex with six people and she ends up knowing they are selfish.
She applies for the University without letting her mom know about the fact. Marion gets upset but her father comes forward to soothe her soul and supports her.
The day before her departure, her mom wastes a few papers to write her letters. Her father gathers every paper and includes it within her bag to let her know how much her mom loves her. This is so beautiful.
